How To Maintain Your Blog While Traveling

How To Maintain Your Blog While Traveling
Unless you are a travel blogger, you may find it difficult to keep up with your blogging while you are on the road. If you blog in your spare time, traveling means most of your spare time is accounted for, and it can be difficult to make time to update your blog or social media status for your passion projects. Here are a few tips to help you get ready for your travels and still have a social presence for your audience.

As soon as you know you will be out of town and away from your regularly scheduled blogging time, count up how many scheduled posting days you will miss. Write out a topic for each day you will be away. Between now and when you leave on your travels, make extra time to write a blog post for each day you will be vacationing or traveling for work.

Once you have written your blogs, sourced your photos and given them titles, you’ll want to schedule them to post using your blogging platform. Most blogging platforms will ask you if you want to publish your content now or at another time. Simply choose a future date for your posts, and they’ll be posted automatically.

Next, create some social media marketing posts. You can use any number of web apps to do this: Buffer, Hubspot, Hootsuite - just to name a few. These platforms allow you to pre-schedule your marketing campaigns so that they can post to your social media accounts any time, day or night. These are great products to rely on when you are traveling, or if you just want to make your day-to-day social media presence easier to manage.

If you aren’t interested in doing all the legwork upfront, you can always hire a virtual assistant to publish your posts for you. This can usually be done for a very low price, especially if it’s ongoing work for a virtual assistant. This gives you the peace of mind that technology won’t fail and assures you that comments can be moderated.

If you’d rather continue to post your own blogs and social media while you are traveling, you’ll need to schedule it into your day. It will be important to maintain your presence online, even on the road - your audience will come to expect you to be posting based on your previously kept schedule. And you don’t want to find yourself having to play catch up upon returning home after being away.

Give yourself a little more time to research and compose your blog posts while traveling: you can easily lose track of time when away from home and there are lots of distractions to keep you from getting down to some real work when the day is done.

Pick a strategy and stick with it. If you find you aren’t able to commit to your blogging schedule when traveling, or if you simply want a break, plan for it and you won’t be missed when you are off enjoying the sun and sand!

Lastly, it’s always a good idea to map out a few months in advance what you are going to blog about, and when you have some extra time, write a few extra blog posts to keep them tucked away for occasions just like this. A little preparation goes a long way!
